The bond to place, or topophilia, is a recurring theme for Marina van Leeuwen. In a first solo outing, this collection of new paintings explores both the immediate and the overlooked through fragmented and juxtaposed layers. Street trees and weedy verges are re imagined as a mysterious and romantic forest, where intuitive colour and mark making conflate observation, memory and abstraction.
